The month of October has been quite a month of jollifications for The Palms Restaurant not just because it has been the month of festivals but also because this prodigious brainchild of Priyadarshini Dey completed 2 years of existence in the food hub of Kolkata.
Offering a fine dining experience in the city without serving alcohol was quite a challenge for The palms in a industry where new restaurants crop up every day but very few root deep and stand still, while others crash and burn. Nonetheless the hardships, The Palms climbed up the steps to glory with its deep rooted sense of veracity in fine dining.
Classy interior, good food and unrivaled hospitality aren’t these the criterion for a good restaurant?
Well each of the three criterion was more than just fulfilled when I was invited for lunch on the occasion of 2nd Birthday celebrations.
The Palms offers two very diverse genres of food- Indian and Oriental.
A few favorites off the oriental menu are namely:
WASABI PRAWNS: This is what your wildest dreams are made up of! Prawns marinated in wasabi and pan seared in Japanese style. The pungent wasabi and tender prawns make up for one exciting adventure!
FISH IN CHILLY PALM SAUCE: A little on the sweeter side yet quite a flavorful dish.
LAMB IN PEKING STYLE: Probably the best cooked lamb I have had in a long time. Lamb slices beautifully cooked in a Peking style sauce.
MOCKTAILS: The mocktails here are a visual treat all layered up in beautiful colors. The Palms Special Mojito adds a freshness to your mood and is the perfect welcome drink to beat summer heat.
Cinderella and the Pink Island are a bit on the sweeter side but the Coke Sangria is an absolute killer!
Some noteworthy dishes off The Indian menu include:
KHUMB GALAUTI KEBAB: This is a revelation for all Galauti kebab lovers. Not your usual meaty galauti but a Vegetarian rendition of it. Yes, you heard it right! Probably the best vegetarian galauti in town!
MURGH BANJARA: Succulent chicken pieces marinated in lemon and yogurt, cooked on a tandoor. Kebabs never really go wrong, do they?
ONION PALAK RICE: A beautiful green spinach rice with strong Indian flavors.
Other favorites include GOSHT ACHARI, SABZEE DILKHUSH, CHICKEN NOORANI, KEEMA NAAN.
Lastly, I need to take a special mention of the desserts. The DATE PAN CAKES simply blew my mind away. Such stunning balance of sweetness and flavors! The crisp of the date pan cakes and cold of the ice cream gave me my 1 minute of paradise visit!
